Favorite Memory of T&D:
So many to choose from...the camaraderie in classes, working on shows... Oh…and the great parties (especially the Halloween parties!) at the "Drama" house near campus! Great shows with great people--both on & off stage: The Martian Chronicles, Do Patent Leather Shows Really Reflect Up?, Spring Awakening, Bingo...
Currently Living In:
Springfield, Illinois, where I live with my husband Eric, our daughter, Emma, and kitty Stella (our previous cat was Blanche...so of course we had to name the next one Stella!)
Associate Professor of Theatre at the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS). My husband and I have been the sole theatre professors at UIS for six years (he's been at UIS for 10), and this year we just hired a third theatre faculty member in scene design/technical direction. We are so excited about the growth of UIS Theatre!
After graduating from UT in 1989, I taught high school theatre in Georgetown, Texas for two years, then went north to Lincoln, Nebraska to get my M.F.A. in Acting at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I then headed to NYC with my husband, Eric, in 1994, and did the 'NYC-thing.' In New York, I acted and directed in Off-Off Broadway theatres, and managed to luck out and land a great gig acting and teaching at Cornell University for a year. I then found my way to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for three years, teaching acting and introduction to theatre courses. There, I directed A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Baltimore Waltz. In the midst of all of that, my husband and I hit a couple of Shakespeare Festivals (me riding on his coat-tails), and snagged various acting gigs when we could.
Some favorite roles include: "Jane" in See Jane Run at The Theatre Studio Inc., in NYC, "Paulina" in Death and the Maiden with Bare Bones Theatre, "Rosalind" in As You Like It with Chickspeare, and "Nora" in A Doll's House. After a brief stint in the Atlanta, Georgia area we moved to Springfield, Illinois with our daughter (she's 11 now), and have been here for 10 years now.
I just received tenure this year at the University of Illinois-Springfield! In addition to teaching various theatre classes (acting, voice and movement, directing, introduction to theatre), I direct one production each academic year for UIS Theatre, and snag the opportunity to do some summerstock shows when time and schedules allow.
In recent years, I directed Picasso at the Lapin Agile, played "Sue" in All My Sons and played "Truvy" in Steel Magnolias all at the Shawnee Summer Theatre in southern Indiana. Most recently I directed True West for UIS Theatre, played "Truvy" (once again) in Steel Magnolias for the McLeod Summer Playhouse, and will direct Ranjit Bolt's translation of Moliere's Tartuffe for UIS Theatre this fall.
