Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Dance

The Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Dance allows students to explore multiple disciplines within the department. Students select a curriculum from departmental course offerings that can be tailored to pursue a concentration in areas such as theatre performance, directing, dance, design and theatre technology, playwriting, theatre history, performance studies, dramaturgy, and literature and criticism. The B.A. in Theatre and Dance includes flexible elective hours that allow students to combine this degree plan with coursework in other areas, such as Business Foundations, Digital Arts & Media, Game Development, Honors Programs or simultaneous majors.

Applying to the Department of Theatre and Dance

All applicants must complete the Department of Theatre and Dance Application and submit an artistic resume.

The Department of Theatre and Dance Application will provide an opportunity for you to tell our faculty more about your experiences in theatre and dance. Our faculty admissions committee will also evaluate your ApplyTexas admissions essays. Creative submissions to the department, such as a design portfolio, or an original script are encouraged. Submissions may be made via email or evaluated in person. Use the Department Application to indicate your preference. Submissions must be received by the application deadline.

Applicants who have applied to the B.F.A. in Acting, Musical Theatre, or B.F.A. in Dance/Dance Studies Option may also be considered for the B.A. in Theatre and Dance only if they indicate this as a preference in the Department of Theatre and Dance Application. Applicants should NOT list the B.A. in Theatre and Dance as a second-choice major on ApplyTexas.

Department Application Deadlines

Freshmen applicants must submit the Department Application and artistic resume no later than December 1.

Transfer applicants must submit the Department Application and artistic resume no later than March 1.

Current UT Austin students applying to add or change major must submit the Department Application and artistic resume no later than March 1. Only students with fewer than 60 UT Austin credit hours who demonstrate a timely path to degree completion will be considered.
