B.F.A. in Dance: Dance Studies Option

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance: Dance Studies Option integrates advanced pedagogy in dance and teacher certification with the professional artistic training and performance opportunities of the B.F.A. in Dance. Students train in daily technique classes in ballet and contemporary dance forms, while also enjoying a curriculum that consists of practical and theoretical studies in performance, choreography, and related dance studies. Students perform and participate regularly in the department’s award-winning dance company, Dance Repertory Theatre. The professional development sequence leading to Texas state teacher certification for grades 8-12 is a total of twenty-four (24) semester hours and includes a semester of observation and a semester of practicum - student teaching. Our dance certification program is grounded in the best practices in teaching dance that facilitate learning movement, dance making and literacy as well as history and legacy. The University of Texas at Austin is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Dance. NASD contact information is available upon request.
