Cat Osterman, Sophomore
UT All-American softball pitcher makes 2004 Olympic Team

Osterman, the left-handed All-American, also competed with the USA Softball National team at the 2003 Pan American Games, held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in August. She brought home a gold medal as a member of the USA's winning squad, pitching a perfect game in the gold medal contest against Canada.

She will train for the next 12 months to prepare to defend the USA Softball Teams' gold medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

Recently, the Big 12 Female Athlete of the Year met with TexasSports.com to answer 20 questions about her personal interests.

    Houston Astros

    Lisa Fernandez because she is such a dominating pitcher and to gain experience from her would be great

    Right now, I would have to say World’s Greatest by R. Kelly
  8. Name the one person you look up to?
    Michele Smith because I have worked with her and she is so down to earth
  9. Favorite Store in the mall?
    That is hard. I have three – American Eagle, Gap and Abercrombie & Fitch
  10. Favorite Holiday?
    I would have to say Christmas. Either way, I am with my whole family whether it’s my mom’s side or my dad’s side.

    Disney Channel
  12. Why did you choose UT?
    It had everything wrapped up into one – great athletics and academics, friends, and close to family.
  13. If you could star in a movie, what one actor would you like to work with?
    Freddie Prinze, Jr.
  14. What hobbies do you have outside of softball?
    I am a sports fanatic – baseball, basketball, college football. I just love going to and watching games. Outside of sports, I am on the computer all the time.
  15. If you could trade places with one person for a day, who would you be?
    Coach Matyuch. I want to know what goes on inside her head. She has so much love for the sport.
  16. What is your favorite meal?
    Fried eggs, bacon, and french toast for breakfast
  17. What goals do you have for yourself and the team this season?
    For the team, our goal is to make it to the Women’s College World Series by taking it one step at a time. For myself, I want to have a good, solid freshman season.
  18. Do you have any superstitions?
    When I am pitching, I have to say, “What do you say, 3” to Lindsay (Gardner) as I go to the mound each inning. She replies, “Here we go, 8.” I also hold my hands up for Lindsay to slap when we are running off the field between innings. Also, Marlo (Hanks) and I point at each other after each strikeout.
