Harrington Faculty Fellows Program

2008-2009 HARRINGTON FACULTY FELLOWSHIPS

NOMINATION AND SELECTION PROCESS

Gifted researchers and scholars in every field of study and from any part of the world are encouraged to apply for a Harrington Faculty Fellowship. To be eligible for nomination, a potential candidate for appointment as a 2008-2009 Harrington Faculty Fellow must:

  • have been awarded a doctoral degree on or after November 15, 1999; and
  • hold a tenure-track or tenured position at his or her institution.

To be considered for committee review, a nominee must be sponsored by a department, an organized research unit (ORU), or an institute (hereinafter collectively referred to as "department" ) of The University of Texas at  Austin. Individuals are encouraged to self-nominate. The applications of self-nominees are forwarded to the appropriate chair for consideration and possible sponsorship.

Fellows are chosen based on the originality and creativity of their work; the anticipated benefit of the award to their discipline or research area, the host department, and The University of Texas at Austin; and the potential to make significant contributions to the global community.

Nomination packets are reviewed by an advisory committee selected by the Executive Vice President and Provost. Finalists are chosen and their nomination packets are forwarded to the Harrington Board for consideration. The President of the University takes into account the advice provided by the review process and makes the final selection and appointment of the Harrington Faculty Fellows.

Announcements of awards will be made in March 2008. If you accept another position before the awards are announced, please notify the Harrington Fellows Program Coordinator in the President's Office at (512) 471-2307 or harrington@po.utexas.edu.
