Retirement UT Austin Style - Norm Minter, President-elect of RFSA, Co-chair of the Membership Committee

  • BBA from the University of Oklahoma
  • Regained his good sense and came to Austin where he received an MBA from UT Austin in 1961
  • Assistant Director of the UT System Personnel Office
  • 1973 -1987, Director of the Office of Personnel Services and Employee Relations (OPSER) at UT Austin
  • 1987 - 1992, attended law school at George Mason University where he received a JD
  • 1987 - 2005 Assistant Vice President for Human Resource Services at Marymount University
  • Returned to Austin in 2005 to be closer to family
  • An active member of UT Austin Retired Faculty/Staff Association, and volunteers as a mediator at the Dispute Resolution Center and as a member of the planning group for the Annual Conference on Aging Well

RFSA

  • The Retired Faculty-Staff Association (RFSA), organized in 1982, evolved from a club formed 40 years earlier as the "Die? No, Sir! Club" for retired personnel.
  • Provides a wide range of activities designed to enrich the retirement experiences of its members
  • Serves as a mechanism for advising UT Austin officials of the suitability of current retirement benefits
  • Has two general meetings each year at which members can renew old acquaintances

Privileges of UT Austin Retirees

  • Obtain an IF Account for Telesys Dial-up Service to the Internet through ITS
  • Maintain a UT email address as a retiree, or sign-up for an email account for the first time as a retiree
  • Use of UT Libraries with a UT ID card
  • Use of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Confidential counseling for personal and work-related concerns is available for retirees and their eligible dependents
  • Admission to all Texas Union programs sponsored by the Texas Union Programming Committee is offered at student rates with a UT ID card
  • Membership in the Retired Faculty-Staff Association is available to all retirees and their spouses
  • Purchase tickets for professional touring events presented by the Performing Arts Center at a discounted price
  • Attend most intercollegiate sports events at a discount or free of charge. A UT ID card is required
  • Purchase a Recreational Sports Facility Permit, including family members
  • Eligible for membership in the Campus Club (formerly called the Faculty Center) at a special reduced rate of 1/2 off the regular rate
  • Audit courses, if age 65 or older, without charge if space is available
  • Purchase personal computers at a discount from the UT Austin Campus Computer Store located in the Flawn Academic Center on the West Mall next to the Tower
  • Apply for a parking permit at a reduced rate
  • Register for computer courses at the Thompson Conference Center and pay the faculty/staff rate
  • Receive a 10% discount at the University Co-Op on everything except textbooks
