Eligibility
- Students appointed to the Student Assistant, Student Associate, Senior Student Associate or Student Technician titles must be admitted to The University of Texas at Austin. Students (undergraduate and graduate) must be enrolled for no less than 6 semester credit hours for the fall and spring semester. Enrollment requirements are waived during summer sessions, but to be eligible for a summer appointment, you must have been enrolled during the previous spring semester.
- Work performed must be non-academic in nature (e.g. clerical, service, computer).
- Students performing research related to their degree program must be appointed in a student academic title.
- Students appointed to the High School Student Worker title must be enrolled as a high school student and be at least 15 years of age on the first day of employment.
- Students appointed to the Non-Affiliated Student Worker title must be admitted to a university-level institution other than UT Austin and enrolled for at least 6 semester credit hours. Examples include St. Edwards, Texas State University, Huston-Tillotson, ACC.
- Students who have graduated from their college or university in May are not eligible to remain in student titles for the summer.
- For the High School Student title, those students who have graduated from high school in May are eligible to remain in the High School Student Worker title through August 31 of that year.
- Students who are enrolled only in extension courses are not eligible for student titles.
Appointments
- Title determined by department based on complexity of work.
- Rate within range determined by department based on complexity of work and internal departmental equity.

Original routed to HRS-Employee Record Services (mail code J5600). If there is a conviction reported please contact HRS-Recruiting and Staffing Services prior to hiring.
- Students who hold these titles may work up to 40 hours per week subject to the federal child labor laws for workers younger than 18 years of age.
Conditions of Employment
- Students can get an increase in salary at any time of the year.
- Nonacademic student titles do not confer eligibility for Resident Tuition
Entitlement.
- Students employed in these titles accrue state service.
- Students in these titles only are not eligible for insurance benefits.
- Students employed in these titles are not eligible for retirement contributions,
holiday pay, longevity pay, or vacation/sick leave accruals.
- Students employed in these titles may be terminated at any time for
misconduct, non-performance of job duties, or inability to perform
job duties.
- Students are not eligible for leave without pay.
