Salary Adjustments

UT Austin provides management with several options regarding adjusting pay outside of the annual merit increases. These are additional duties increases (which may be either temporary or permanent) and equity increases. Use the links below to determine if one of these processes offers a solution to a workforce compensation need.

Additional Duties - Temporary

Temporary additional duties is used to accommodate a change in work content that is limited in timeframe. These are often used where there is turnover that results in a staffing shortage, and short term projects or surges.

To process an temporary additional duties increase, complete the salary adjustment form and send it to Human Resource Services (ATTN: Staffing and Career Management Services). Once approved by HRS, the unit should complete the appointment change document in accordance with the terms in the form - including begin and end dates for the change.

Additional Duties - Permanent

Permanent additional duties increases are justified to recognize that the work has changed in a position for the foreseeable future, but the change does not require a change in title (reclassification). This often happens when there is a redistribution of work or an organizational change that increases the accountability of a specific position.

To process a permanent additional duties increase, complete the salary adjustment form and send it to Human Resource Services (ATTN: Staffing and Career Management Services). Once approved by HRS, the unit should complete the appointment change document in accordance with the terms in the form.

Equity Increase

Equity increases may be justified when there are volatile swings in the internal or external "markets" for specific skills and competencies. These forces, which can be quantified and substantiated by survey data, often require expeditious action to ensure fairness and equity. These are often used for retention strategies.

To process an equity adjustment, complete the salary adjustment form and send it to Human Resource Services (ATTN: Staffing and Career Management Services). Once approved by HRS, the unit should complete the appointment change document in accordance with the terms in the form.
