Welcome to The University of Texas at Austin.  I am pleased that you’re joining the UT family.  We want you to feel at home here.  Our campus is a large, diverse community of faculty, staff, and students.  We pride ourselves on being a caring, Texas friendly environment in which to work and study.  You will find your own special place here among friends and co-workers.

There are many people, resources and services available to assist and support you as you settle in and make your unique contribution to the University.  Don’t hesitate to call on your supervisor and colleagues for information and advice.  Explore the many UT web pages that provide updates and employee services to make your work easier, more enjoyable, and more productive.  Few places of employment offer as many advantages as we do, including free tuition for employees.

The University of Texas has been transforming lives for more than 120 years.  There are many symbols that represent UT’s special character – the Tower, Bevo, and “Hook ‘em Horns.”  We hope you will take pride in your new workplace and share our Texas spirit.  And we hope this will be the beginning of a long friendship with an institution you respect and admire.

Sincerely,
William Powers, Jr.
President

Welcome From Julien Carter, AVP for Human Resource Services

photograph of Julien Carter the AVP for Human Resource ServicesWelcome to the University of Texas at Austin!

UT is the largest institution of the University of Texas System with a budget of over $1.3 billion and home to over 50,000 students, over 2,800 faculty, and 21,000 staff and student employees.  But beyond facts and figures you have joined a community of great pride and accomplishment.

You may wonder why I use “community” rather than “employer.”  In addition to being an employer that pays competitive wages and provides outstanding benefits, the University of Texas at Austin is in every sense a community—a community:

          • Committed to providing outstanding educational experiences and opportunities for our students;
          • Dedicated to the advancement of society through research, creative activity, scholarly inquiry and the development of new knowledge; and,
          • Devoted to preserving and promoting the arts, benefiting the State of Texas economy, and serving the citizens through public programs and providing other public service.
          • Committed to defending what it means to be a University of the first class.

Whether President, dean, professor, administrative assistant or custodian, each of us contributes to the UT community.  We are confident that you, too, will make a significant contribution to The University of Texas at Austin.

Beginning with this New Employee Orientation and continuing throughout your career, please know that Human Resource Services is available to assist you.

Once again, welcome!

Sincerely,
Julien C. Carter
Associate Vice President for Human Resource Services
