Security Sensitive Position InformationIn an effort to maintain a safe environment for students, visitors, faculty, staff, and physical resources, the University conducts criminal background checks on applicants hired for those positions designated security sensitive. [see UT Handbook of Operating Procedures, Criminal Background Checks (Policy Number 7.E.2)] The Associate Vice President for Human Resources has designated all classified and administrative/professional (code 1000) positions as security sensitive. For information on faculty positions, contact the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost at facultyjobsearch@lists.cc.utexas.edu. Departments must complete a Background Check Request Form [PDF; 39K] for all new employees in Security Sensitive positions after an offer is made and before the employee begins work. The completed form should be sent to Recruiting & Staffing Services, NOA 2.302, Mail Code J5600. If the Short Application Form (PO-14) [PDF; 74K] was used to hire the candidate, please include a copy of that form also. When using the Short Application Form, hiring managers should contact their Staffing Consultant in HRS prior to making an offer to any applicants who have listed a misdemeanor conviction or a felony conviction. A criminal conviction does not necessarily mean the candidate cannot be hired. The hiring department will be billed for each background check. For this reason, any forms that do not have a valid account number, an authorized signature, or other necessary information cannot be processed. If you are not sure which account number to use, contact the accounting manager for your department. Please allow up to three (3) business days for results. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Lopez (471-6840) for assistance.
