1. If I'm on a temporary assignment, how much notice must I give
if I accept a permanent job offer?
We request a one week notice; however, we will work with you and the hiring
department.

2. If I work more than forty (40) hours a week will I get paid for overtime?
Yes, but this is rare.

3. Do I get paid for holidays that occur during an assignment?
No. Your pay is based only on hours worked.

4. How often is a UTemp paid?
UTemps are paid twice per month (semi-monthly). There are two pay periods for each month. The first pay period begins on the first day of the month through the 15 of the month. The second pay period begins on the 16 of the month through the last day of the month. Pay day is estimated to be five workdays from the ending of the pay period.

5. What is the average length of a UTemp assignment?
The length of each UTemp assignment varies and can range from one day to several months. The ending date is a "projected ending date" and is flexible. However, we find that many of the temporary assignments will be extended.

6. Can a UTemp assignment go from temporary to permanent?
If a department is recruiting for a vacancy and the UTemp meets the requirements for that job, the UTemp may be eligible to compete for the job vacancy with all of those who apply. Your demonstrated skills and work record can be considered by hiring managers.

7. Will I be able to park on campus while working as a UTemp?
On each assignment, you will be offered a chance to purchase a temporary 'A' parking permit from the Parking and Transportation office. This will allow you to park at any parking site on campus that allows the 'A' permit. The permit is good for one month from date of purchase.

8. While on an assignment, can I take time off to go on job interviews and medical appointments?
Yes. Since there are no "benefits" as a UTemp, time off is without pay. This also includes UT holidays. Advance notification to your supervisor is required when time off is needed. This is needed so arrangements can be made by the supervisor to "cover" your position while you're gone. Departments are aware that UTemps are seeking permanent employment and will need time off to go on job interviews.

9. Where can I get more time sheets?
Please go here to print a copy of the time sheet and make as many copies as you need.

10. What if my immediate supervisor is not available to sign my time sheet?
On your first day at work, you and your supervisor need to identify a back-up person to sign your time sheet when he/she is not available.

11. What happens if my time sheet is late?
If your time sheet is late, you will not be paid until the next pay period. UTemps are strongly encouraged to be responsible for turning their time sheet in on time.

12. What happens if I can't make it to an assignment?
If you will be absent or late, please inform your supervisor as soon as possible.

13. Am I eligible to apply for a UT wide (UT Employees only) position?
No. This is because only university employees that are benefits eligible may apply. UTemps do not meet this criteria.
