By completing the online UT application, does this automatically place me in the UTemps pool?
Completing the online application is the first step in applying for the UTemps pool. However, new applicants are only recruited for the UTemps pool whenever a "posting" is placed. See "How to apply for UTemps" on this Web site.

When applying to a "posting" that reflects (UTemps) does this automatically place me into the UTemps pool?
Applying to a "posting" placed by UTemps only means that you have determined that you met the "Required Qualifications" that are listed on the posting. Only selected applicants will be contacted and provided with instructions for the continuation of the application process. This will be done either by phone or email.

Whenever I do search for any "posting" that is placed by UTemps, all I get is: "We're sorry, but no jobs meet your search criteria. Try broadening your search by modifying your search options to include more possible job matches." Does this mean there are no temporary jobs available through UTemps?
This means UTemps is not currently recruiting for new applicants for its pool or for a specific position. But do check the Web site frequently. Whenever UTemps has a need to increase its pool, a new "posting" may show up at any time. The "posting" may close at any time.

Can I work as a UTemp and continue to seek permanent employment?
Yes. The majority of applicants signing on with UTemps, are seeking permanent employment. An applicant completes and submits a "resume-based" online application. Applications may be used for both UTemps and permanent employment. Your clerical skill scores are also used for both purposes. When necessary, applicants may be routed through the Work in Texas application system at http://www.workintexas.com.

How long/often could I expect to be employed as a UTemp?
Each placement is a separate action. When an assignment is completed, you
will compete for the next available temporary job. There is no guarantee of
employment. Also, the length of each UTemp assignment varies and can range
from one day to several months. The ending date is a "projected ending
date" and
is flexible. However, we find that many of the temporary assignments will be
extended.

What is the minimum hourly rate offered as a UTemp?
The current minimum hourly pay rate is $11.01/hour. Salary will vary depending on the level of the job and the skills required.

Once I accept an assignment, how soon will I start?
It depends on how soon the department needs you. Often, you will start the next day.

Can a UTemp assignment go from temporary to permanent?
If a department is recruiting for a vacancy and the UTemp meets the requirements for that job, the UTemp may be eligible to compete for the job vacancy with all of those who apply. Your demonstrated skills and work record can be considered by hiring managers.

Will I be able to park on campus while working as a UTemp?
On each assignment, you will be offered a chance to purchase a temporary 'A' parking permit from the Parking and Transportation office. This will allow you to park at any parking site on campus that allows the 'A' permit. The permit is good for one month from date of purchase.

I've had previous UTemps experience, but it's been some time ago. Can I be placed back into the UTemps pool with just a phone call?
Please call the UTemps Counselor at 232-TEMP (8367) or e-mail at utemps@austin.utexas.edu and state that you've previously worked as a UTemp and would like to be placed back into the pool. If research reflects that it has been too long since you last worked for UTemps, you may have to complete all or some of the required employee forms again. The UTemps Counselor will return your call and provide you with further information.
