I hope everyone is enjoying the second semester
of school as much as I am. I am so glad that this semester isn’t
starting off like the last one. I guess when you put your mind to
something you can always accomplish your goal. My classes are going
great and I am even making it to some of the events that are going
on here at the campus. Last semester I didn’t make it to many
events and I am really proud of myself now because I am getting
my studying done and I am getting out of my dorm room. At the end
of last semester my friend and I vowed that we were going to come
back to school with a new attitude, and so far it has been very
beneficial.
I think that the first event that we attended
was the UMOJA date auction. I have to tell about this because it
is really funny. My friend and I have this crazy “if you do
it I will” complex, so we can talk each other into doing pretty
much anything. We went to the date auction with no intent of “buying”
anyone, but we never intend to do anything that we do so things
quickly changed. The first person who went up for bid was a guy
my friend had said was cute the first time she saw him. This was
at the beginning of the school year and we always joked with her
about her liking him, so when he came out I did what any good friend
would do, I encouraged her to bid on him.
One thing I should mention is that both of
us are really shy, even though at times it doesn’t seem like
it. At first she wasn’t sure she wanted to do it. I was not
about to let her leave there without at least trying to get him.
At the end, she had the highest bid and she had to go sit with him
at the front where all the participants were. Shortly after that
I noticed her “hateration” walk in the door. We call
this guy her “hateration” because he is always in her
business and for some reason he always has something to say about
how she “lives her life.” It is so interesting how much
people you don’t even think about seem to worry about you.
When I saw him walk in the door I knew that he had his “hater
radar” on. He went and sat right at the front so that he could
have a good view of what was going on. Being the good friend that
I am, I sent out one of our famous text messages: “Your ‘hateration’
is to your left.” She already knew what was going on. We should
have known that her purchase was going to be the topic of one of
many conversations, but it’s nice to be the center of attention
sometimes. My friend did get to go on her date and she really enjoyed
herself.
Now we can start on another one of our many
crazy adventures, but I won’t touch on that subject. Most
of the things we do are very stupid and would therefore cause major
embarrassment if I were to post them online. I will fill you in
on more things that are happening on campus next time and I hope
that everyone stays safe until then.
