Facts about your family:
I have two sets of parents: Gayla and Jeff, my mom and stepfather, and Warren and Jenny, my Dad and stepmother. I also have three very different sisters. Monique, 21, and Angelica, 16, are sisters on my mother’s side, and little Miss Jaylin, who is 2 years old, is my sister on my dad’s side.
Why did you choose to attend The University of Texas at Austin?
First of all there is free money in Texas and why not take advantage of it? Also, UT has the #1 undergraduate accounting program. You can’t complain about the sports either. Coming here is a win-win situation.
What do you want to do when you graduate from the university?
I want to enter into the sports and/or entertainment industry as an accountant. Then I want to retire and become a history teacher. If it is possible, I want to write a couple of novels and/or informative books.
If you could choose one personal object to represent you (an item you brought to campus with you), what would that object be?
It would have to be a 56-page scrapbook representing my high school journey. From triumph to tragedy, this “senior-book” highlights accomplishments, hobbies, aspirations and family.
If you had to choose one thing about yourself to share with the university’s Web audience, what would it be?
I’m trying to overcome two things in college: 1) Kakorrhaphiophobia, the fear of failure and 2) Gaining more confidence.
Who are your heroes?
Mos Def, Queen Nzingha and Assata Shakur. These individuals represent hope and power among the African/African American culture. They truly live for the people, unlike our government.
If you could travel to one spot anywhere in the world, where would you want to visit?
Rome. The architecture there is exquisite.
What are your current favorite books? What books would you recommend to someone you just met?
My favorite book is “Crime and Punishment.” If you misunderstand me in anyway, read this book to find out more about me.
What pushes your buttons? What are your pet peeves? Materialistic folks, people who smack while they eat, and those who argue me down about who the first person on this planet was. Clearly it was an African.
What music are you listening to currently?
I’m an ol’ school girl. I love Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, and I’m just now getting into Fela [Anikulapo] Kuti. Besides that I absolutely adore Mos Def, Common, Lyfe, Lauryn Hill, Fantasia, Evanescence, Coldplay and the list goes on and on.
Blue, pink and lime green
Favorite Web sites? Why?
Swagga.com gives insight into African decent and the African Diaspora from an Afrocentric point of view, Facebook.com is a place where I can just “chill” and Kadirnelson.com has beautiful artwork from a man who possesses a beautiful soul.
HOT WINGS!!!! Oh yeah, Mexican and Chinese cuisine.
All-time favorite movies? Why?
Anyone who knows me will tell you that I know every word to “Coming to America.” The movie is just hilarious and I will still laugh my head off after seeing it for the trillionth time. On a serious note, “Bamboozled” is definitely an all-time favorite. Spike Lee really done it with this beautiful satire about blacks who sell out to move up in the corporate world. Last but not least, there is “Juice.” Four words: Tupac is in it.
Favorite academic subjects? What are you interested in studying in the future?
I love Ancient African History. Why not study the “crater of civilization”?
Favorite spot on campus?
The Perry-Castañeda Library. Although you have to make sure you watch your things because of avid thieves lurking the premises, your work will surely get done in a quiet and manageable situation. Oh yeah, you have to love the computer lab in the McCombs School of Business. I feel so “top flight” in there with those sleek, flat-screen computers.
Favorite places to go in Austin? Favorite things to do in Austin?
WAL-MART!!! Come on now Wal-Mart is like the best feature of this place. My favorite thing to do is to go to Wal-Mart about 2 a.m. with crazy friends and push each other in baskets down the aisle. Man, that is sooooo fun!
Favorite free-time activities?
I am a creative writer. Although some of my work is filled with slang, a few bad words here and there, and also frustration of so many topics (including my complex mind), my words are insightful and helps me get through many trying days. I also LOVE to watch sports. I may be too cheap to pay for a ticket but I would watch any sport any time of the day.
Interesting facts about you:
I love Dave Chappelle. He is the funniest man alive, and I know the whole season two DVD by heart. Don’t test me because you’ll be laughing all day.
