I Am Jack’s Inflamed Sense of Optimism or: #141
I used to feel so alone in the city.
Now I feel as sense of belonging at this university.
It is good to just say hi,
On an elevator,
At the Guadalupe crosswalk,
On the West Mall,
On the quad,
In the FAC,
Or in line at Wendy’s.
To every girl or guy you see,
Just say hi,
And let be what will be.
Maybe someone will ask, “why?
Why are you so happy?”
And you can reply,
“Some days, it’s good to be alive!”
Then maybe you’ll go out,
Have so much fun, and do it again.
Have a first kiss,
Meet the parents,
Get married,
Have babies,
Live happily ever after.
But in actuality,
Someone will ignore you.
But that’s okay too.
It’s just their loss, they didn’t have the gift of knowing you.
Perhaps that possibility is worth that one word.
Maybe you meet 1000 people with that one word.
Maybe you could even meet the one.
But in case you haven’t heard,
Life’s not all sugar cookies and fairies,
It’s extremely hard to find someone decent to marry,
It’s extremely hard to throw out that one word,
As bees, it’s extremely hard to find birds.
But Jack’s inflamed sense of optimism tells me,
“Just try!
Go up to her,
And just say hi.”

Van, dude stop worrying about finding HER.
She will come to you. It’ll happen sooner or later. No need to force it, ok? lol.
Nicely written tho. I think my fav lines of all this stuff you’ve written so far are this:
Perhaps that possibility is worth that one word.
Maybe you meet 1000 people with that one word.
Maybe you could even meet the one.
Well, hope you’re doing well.
Very true. It really sucks when you figure out what you want to say or that you just should have something, anything, and its to late.
Van, I loved your post
You have an amazing way with words
