Where The Day Goes

I’m not one for complaining, especially when I put myself in a situation that’s insane. Yet, I just feel the need to share with you the insane length of a day in my life. Let’s take yesterday, Monday, September 29.

8:00 am – wake up, take a shower, brush my teeth, make some coffee, walk to class
9:00 am – Music History 313M (the first one): I aced my test that I studied really hard for last week, which makes me happy. However, it’s time to get past that and start working on new stuff.
10:00 am – Music Theory 612A (the third one): OK, this class is really a waste for me right now, because I already know all of the info, but with a test on Wednesday and everyone who didn’t take high school music theory like I did kind of freaking out, I’m offering tutoring. More on that later.
11:00 am – I sit on the green couches at the music building, alternating between writing compositions for my Beginning Composition class or writing reports for another class that will get its own post later, I promise. I’ll think about grabbing food, but decide to go back to my apartment to eat later.
12:00 pm – Chamber Singers Rehearsal. My voice is already shot from an intense weekend’s worth of singing, but I can deal because I love to do it.
2:00 pm – After rehearsal, I finish the report I started earlier (about 60 words too short, alas).
3:15 pm – I finally grab a bite at my apartment, before rushing back over to the music building…
4:00 pm – … where I tutor my friend Mark for Music Theory at a rate of $15. Sounds like I’m a terrible friend, but it was his offer. I helped a lot around finals time last year, and I had a friend tutor me for a fee in Physics. It’s all about being good at something, right? If you’re good at something, people will pay for you for it. Which is always nice, cuz that means I can, like, eat.
5:00 pm – I run home from tutoring, change into dress attire…
5:30 pm – … and arrive at the Texas Hillel, or Jewish Students Center near campus. Now, I identify as Christian, but I decided I’d do my friend Dan a favor and sing at his Rash Hashanah and Yom Kippur services at the Hillel for the mere price of a few meals on the house and the company of my fellow choristers. It was a ton of fun, and it was really fun to see a number of my Jewish friends come up to me and say, “I DIDN’T KNOW YOU WERE JEWISH!!” only to disappoint them moments later.
9:30 pm – After a lengthy day… NOPE. not done yet. Go home, get my stuff, and head BACK to the music building (I drive this time, cuz at this hour, there’s definitely parking, and I’m not one to walk all the way across campus in the dark) for my Electronic Studio time.
10:00 pm – I check out the key and futz around with electronic sounds in Logic Pro, a digital audio workstation. It’s a lot of fun, and a nice stress-reliever at the end of my day. At first, I was pretty upset with getting that scheduled time, but now I’m cool with it.
11:15 pm – since I don’t have any other time this week to go grocery shopping, I drive over to the local grocery store and pick up milk and the necessities (Hamburger Helper prominent among them).
12:00 am – I arrive home, and pop in The Hours, which just came in my Netflix. Too bad I only got through about 30 minutes before completely crashing.

Like I said – I’m not complaining, I’m just merely telling you where the day goes. It goes to others until about 10 pm, and for now, I’m cool with that.

Hey P(J)aul, I can totally relate to that, and it makes me realize how much I actually love to (and miss) sleeping. :-)
