Easy classes.. Fact or Fiction??

After two weeks of school I’m finally getting into the groove of things; I’m focused on school and I’m going for that much sought after 4.0 this semester.

Hello 2010!

So my winter break pretty much flew by and now look where we’re at, 2010. It probably wasn’t as much of a sentimental moment for me as the media made it out to be, I mean, it was no year 2000.

In Defense of Social Work

Listening to: Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These) — Eurythmics

MDR,

A couple of days ago, I had one of those conversations. You know, the kind you walk away from feeling like you’ve been talking to a brick wall. It went something like this -

NOT THE CACTUS!

Horrible news has hit The University of Texas campus this evening. Our beloved Cactus Cafe will close in August due to budget cuts at the Texas Union. THIS IS A TRAVESTY PEOPLE! The Cactus Cafe is the venue where many famous Austin artists began their careers: Lyle Lovett, David Garza, Nanci Griffith, Lucinda Williams, Shawn Colvin and others.

The Cactus Cafe was where my fiance and I had one of our first dates five years ago — a Monte Montgomery concert. If you haven’t heard of Monte, you must look him up. Even better, go to a show at the Cactus! This small music venue is in the heart of campus, a place where you can actually see the musicians and feel like you are part of the music. Please visit the Cactus on campus, we need to show UT Administration how important this venue is to campus.

Along with Cactus Cafe closing, we are losing Informal Classes. Of course, these classes have been on my to do list for the past 8 years. Anything from languages, to religion, to computer programming to knitting, UT offers courses for the benefit of our community. Guess I better start looking through the Informal Course Schedule….

Our campus is losing what makes us unique, we must do something!!

Course Round-Up

Listening to: Leyenda — Michael Boyd

MDR,

This post might alternatively be titled “Admitting Defeat.” The second week of classes is nearly over. It hasn’t gone quite as I expected — but when does anything?

So it begins… pt. 2

So… It’s Thursday afternoon and after being late to every class since school started on Tuesday, I finally managed to be on time to one of my classes, it was the last class of the day which starts at two, but I made it on time and that’s the important thing. Lol.

Grad School Blues

I can’t believe this semester is starting up! Some of my dear friends from the Longhorn Band days came over for dinner tonight. We had a very interesting conversation about graduate school at UT-Austin. Students in the College of Education and the School of Social Work are facing some of the strictest budgets on campus.

Lime Juice and Sunshine

I spent the last week on a cruise to Mexico with the fiance’s family! Oh yeah, it was fabulous! Plenty of time to sleep, read and get sunburned. I’m definitely one of the palest people I know, but I managed a bit of a suntan as well as a strange mark on my leg.
