It’s my Senior year and I feel like time is flying by soooo fast. Too fast. I want to slow down and appreciate the people, the city and the events going on right now. I want to savor it all.
I want to savor UT and Austin. Austin’s an awesome city. Chris Brown and RayJ randomly dropped by ATX, N.E.R.D. was here, the guys from Psyche the TV show were here, Janelle Monae was in town, Kevin Hart had a show, and Spike Lee sat down with a bunch of my friends and the African and African Diaspora department the other day. These kind of star sightings are not out of the ordinary in Austin. (I once saw Matthew McConaughey at a UT football game–he’s a Texas alum and I saw Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama). All these awesome events happened recently and I missed all of them! What is my problem?? I think my problem is that there is too much to do and not enough time for me to do it. I’m too busy in my life!
Don’t get me wrong, I have been to a few cool events already this semester:
The Business of Fashion-Fashion Show: It made me wanna go out and buy a ton of business clothes!
Fest Africa: I’m clearly biased, but I think this was the best cultural event on campus!
Shrek the Musical: This was an awesome show! I was at the edge of my seat the whole time, laughing and being entertained. I would recommend the show to everyone, young and old.
Poetic Expressions: I love spoken word. There are a lot of talented poets on our campus. Props to AACC for hosting the event.
Voting: Exercising my civic duty was great!
I still feel like I’m missing out on a lot of things. I need to take advantage of the fact that I’m in the great city of Austin. I won’t have access to all these great events forever and it’ll be over before I know it. I don’t mind missing out on the celebrities because, although I like celebrities, I know they can have little impact on my real life. I mind the opportunities I’ve missed to see things for STUDENT DISCOUNTED PRICES. Yes, I’m cheap frugal. Being a college student, I’m allowed and encouraged to be. In the future, I will be taking advantage of these on-campus events and of the events in Austin.
A big event in the near future (this week) is my UT class ring ceremony. I will definitely have pictures of my ring.
In order to appreciate Austin better, I’ve been trying to compile a senior bucket list. I’m still working on it so far. Let me know if you have any fun suggestions of things to put on my bucket list!
