My Christmas break was filled with applications and studying. Count on me to make a break an extended work day. I got out my old Spanish book and studied like nobody’s business because this semester I’ll be taking my first upperdivision Spanish course, Civilization of Spanish America.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…
Spending time with my family was even more interesting when I made a Spanish card game and my Dad got real competative. I had a blast teaching my family the language I love so much. Then we had our movie nights where we all watched The Hangover and laughed like no one was watching. The most magical part was Christmas. I was able to get my parents a nice gift this year. I volunteered making cards for Volunteer Houston and I even got a card from my friend Rosa who is graduating this semester. I’ve been knowing her since my freshman year and she inspired me to get involved on campus. I’m very proud of her for all of her acomplishments.
Ringing in the new year…
We watched Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Years Eve and laughed at Lady Gaga’s outfit, sang along with Nicki Minaj and talked about how much soul Robin Thicke did/didn’t have. I’m in love with Robin Thicke so he’s soulful to me. My Dad on the other hand was NOT in agreement. I thought about how I wanted to make 2012 the most extraordinary year yet. How I want to spend more time appreciating what I do have. How I want to work hard, play hard and enjoy life. 2012 will be a grand year.
My first trip to the Houston Zoo in FOREVER…
It was a pleasant surprise to see my friends Jorge, Myhanh, Juan and Juan’s sister Consuelo during the break. Even though we all live in Houston, I live wayyyyy on the other side of town. It’s weird to think that I would not have met Jorge, Myhanh or Juan had I not gone to UT.
The Zoo wasn’t as foul smelling as I remember. When I was younger, I couldn’t stand the smell. Now, I was wide-eyed and excited. I saw monkeys, ducks, lions and tigers. I didn’t go into the petting zoo though. It made me remember my 1st grade dream of being a Zoo Keeper. That dream boat has sailed. Afterwards, we ate Whataburger and I tried the new Spicy Ketchup. I don’t know why Jorge was raving about it. It wasn’t all that.
Lesson #__: Take time to actually take a break. The past few days I’ve been a bit under the weather. I’ve just been watching National Geographic episodes of “Locked up Abroad”. Doing absolutely nothing is a relaxing change from the normal fast paced life I like to lead. In about a week, I’ll be back at it. Class, meetings, lunch/dinners with pals, everyday phone calls with mom and everything else that comes with being a student at UT. You know what…I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I attend one of the BEST SCHOOLS IN TEXAS. I have the best family and friends a girl could ask for. And I get to share a piece of my story with you all!
Lets make 2012 the best year yet.
