Joshuah’s Profile

Facts about your family:

I have two older brothers.

Why did you choose to attend The University of Texas at Austin?

All the resources are available here. I didn’t have to travel far to know that.

What do you want to do when you graduate from the university?

I plan to pursue a law degree and possibly work for a law firm, but I ultimately want to be a policymaker.

If you had to choose one thing about yourself to share with the university’s Web audience, what would it be?

I would like the Web audience to know that I have worked hard to get where I am today, and I hope to change the world. When I die I want the world to be a better place because of me and leave behind a lasting legacy for others to emulate and for my family to be proud of me.

Who are your heroes?

I wouldn’t say I have any heroes, but I do have a few idols. Tupac Shakur was a pioneer in the music world, and his lyrics were ahead of their time. He has always given me meaning in life, especially in my years of adolescence. My oldest brother is also one of my idols. He was born premature and I feel that it is my duty to close the potential gap that exists between him and the rest of the world. Through him, I have learned that it is important to use my abilities because I have fortunately been blessed with them.

If you could travel to one spot anywhere in the world, where would you want to visit?

Wow, that’s a tough question. I have always wanted to travel the world, but if there ever was a place I would guess it would be on hills of the scene where William Wallace from “Braveheart” treks across toward the end of the movie…a segue to a question to come…

What are your current favorite books? What books would you recommend to someone you just met?

My current favorite book is “China: Fragile Superpower” written by Susan Shirk. I’m not one to recommend books, but this is a great book written by an absolute expert.

What pushes your buttons? What are your pet peeves?

A cluttered space is my pet peeve. I become angry when I feel cramped.

What are your favorite Web sites? Why?

<a href=”http://www.yahoonews.com”Yahoo! News: I can keep myself up to date without leaving my home page. Astros: When the Astros are doing well, I check that site religiously.

What are your favorite foods?

California Pizza Kitchen’s Sicilian Pizza and my mom’s homemade enchiladas.

What music are you listening to?

Gorilla Zoe.

What are your all-time favorite movies? Why?

The movie “Braveheart” is played by Mel Gibson with so much passion. The movie is intense throughout its entirety, and the desire Mel Gibson reflects feels completely real. “Forrest Gump” is another favorite movie of mine. Forrest’s innocence is played perfectly by Tom Hanks. The movie takes you through a sort of time travel of American history as Forrest Gump saw it.

Who are your favorite artists?

My favorite music artists are Tupac and George Strait.

What are your favorite academic subjects? What are you interested in studying in the future?

My favorite subjects are government, economics and geology. I am interested in studying international relations with China in the future.

What’s your favorite spot on campus?

My favorite spot on campus is under the Martin Luther King statue just as the sun rises. I like to sit there and read as the sun comes up. It gives you an appreciation of the campus and gives me a motivational boost.

Where are your favorite places to go in Austin? What are your favorite things to do in Austin?

I honestly haven’t taken advantage of many places in Austin. I’ve been here and there, but I have yet to find any favorite places.

What are your favorite free-time activities?

Although I hardly get any free time, I like to work out, relax, watch sports and catch up on current events.

Other interesting facts about you:

I really don’t know. I guess interesting is in the eye of the beholder.
