Timi’s Profile
Facts about your family:
I live with my mom and dad. I have an older sister and fraternal twin siblings. We’re from Houston.
Why did you choose to attend The University of Texas at Austin?
It is THE University of Texas at Austin. I wanted to start fresh and be a part of a huge campus where I could be anything I wanted to be.
What do you want to do when you graduate from the university?
I want to get my Ph.D. and become a college professor.
If you had to choose one thing about yourself to share with the university’s Web audience, what would it be?
I’m very ambitious. I like to express myself. I don’t like being restricted. I’m a romantic, in theory.
Who are your heroes?
My dad and mom.
If you could travel to one spot anywhere in the world, where would you want to visit?
London in the summer — catch up with some old friends.
What are your favorite books? What books would you recommend to someone you just met?
“Redeeming Love” by Francine Rivers!! I love a good book that makes your heart clench, race and stop all together, then start all over again. I’m also a big romantic.
What pushes your buttons? What are your pet peeves?
I don’t like when people are pompous.
What are your favorite Web sites? Why?
I love reading natural hair blogs and watching natural hair videos on YouTube. I could stay on those sites forever!
What are your favorite foods?
Rice! My mom is a great cook, so whenever I go home I ask her to make me rice and stew. Rice is a staple in a lot of cultures. I am amazed by how versatile it is.
What music are you listening to?
Right now, I’m listening to a cover of “Unthinkable” that I am singing on with some friends.
What are your all-time favorite movies? Why?
“Time Travelers Wife” — no, wait, “Hitch” — no, “My Sister’s Keeper” — oh, duh! “The Wedding Planner” — oh no, I know! — “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers!” Actually, I like movies with romance, comedy and maybe a little song and dance.
Who are your favorite artists?
Lauryn Hill. Classy lady, powerful voice. Janelle Monae is a close second. I love music — making it, not so much listening to it.
What are your favorite academic subjects? What are you interested in studying in the future?
I like anything that allows me to learn about people: sociology, psychology, anthropology, etc.
What’s your favorite spot on campus?
My room; it’s where I can just let my hair down and be myself.
Where are your favorite places to go in Austin? What are your favorite things to do in Austin?
There’s a little cafe called Blue Dahlia where I sometimes have brunch with my friends. They make great frittatas.
What are your favorite free-time activities?
Reading, singing and chilling.
Other interesting facts about you:
I’m really into the DIY (Do-It-Yourself) movement. I like learning how to do things just so I can say, “Hey, look what I can do!”
I love singing in hallways, elevators, bathrooms, stairwells, any place that echoes, but I will shut up as soon as someone walks up on me. I’m a little shy sometimes.
I think YouTube singers are often better than the famous ones. You can hear how bad they want it in their voice.
