K. Sata Sathasivan is a senior lecturer in the Section of Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology in the School of Biological Sciences. He received his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University and has taught at The University of Texas at Austin for 15 years.

Dr. Sathasivan is interested in applied plant molecular biology areas, such as plant genetic engineering, genome analysis, expression of foreign proteins in plants and developing biofuels. He encourages and supervises undergraduate students to do original research in these areas. He has also served as faculty adviser for student organizations for the past 15 years.

Dr. Sathasivan actively uses multimedia and technology in his teaching. He has received numerous teaching awards, including the Texas Exes Teaching Excellence Award and the Dads’ Association Centennial Teaching Fellowship. He is the biology coordinator of the Web-based Homework Service and Bio-DOC: Biology Digital Online Content.
