Debbie Volker is associate professor of adult health nursing and division chair of the holistic adult health faculty in the School of Nursing. Her research interest focuses on ethical dilemmas and decisions that adults with cancer, their families and nurses experience within the context of terminal illness.
Dr. Volker’s most recent study, “Patient Control, Ethnicity and End-of-Life Care,” explored the nature of what patients with advanced cancer want regarding personal control and comfort at the end of life. Her teaching interests include bioethics, theories of adult health nursing and qualitative research methods.
Prior to her appointment at the School of Nursing, Dr. Volker served as director of nursing education and an adjuvant clinical ethicist at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
