Caritas
of Austin Needs Interpreters and Translators
Caritas of Austin urgently needs Arabic, Vietnamese, Farsi, Russian,
Uzbek, Turkish and Amharic speakers to help political refugee clients
find employment or translate documents.
Volunteers living in Austin may be asked to work directly with refugee
clients at Caritas. Virtual opportunities are available for global
or long-distance volunteers.
With a recent surge of newly arrived refugees, Caritas is struggling
to keep up with the demand for volunteer interpreters. The social
service agency resettles political refugees who fled war or persecution
in their home countries to live peacefully in the United States.
To volunteer as an interpreter, call 512-646-1251 or
visit http://www.caritasofaustin.org/
Caritas’ Refugee Resettlement Program has assisted over
8,000 documented refugees since the program's inception in
1975. This year, Caritas will resettle 200 refugees.
Since 1964, Caritas has assisted with basic needs such as food,
rent and utilities, and helped clients to learn the skills
they need to gain self-sufficiency. This year, Caritas will
serve over 20,000 adults and children as Travis County’s largest source of non-governmental
assistance. “Caritas” is from the Latin word for
love, and in this spirit, anyone with a legitimate need is
eligible to receive help.
