License for Transactions
with Cuba 

  

Faculty and staff activities under the University of Texas license are limited to the following:

 

Teaching at a Cuban academic institution by an individual regularly employed in a teaching capacity at the University of Texas at austin, provided the teaching activities are related to an academic program at the Cuban institution and the duration of the teaching will be no shorter than 10 weeks;

The organization of and preparation for activities described in (1)-(5) above by a full-time permanent employee of the University of Texas at Austin.


Faculty and staff planning a trip to Cuba that meets the requirements of UT's license should follow these steps:
 
Step 1 Request travel under the  University of Texas License from the International Office.

Step 2

Contact an authorized travel agent to arrange for your ticket and accommodations.

Step 3

Complete an application for visa to Cuba. The visa application is not submitted in the United States. Complete the application on line, print out, and take with you to have available when requested.

Step 4

Familiarize yourself with the regulations regarding travel to Cuba under the license of an academic institution, the Comprehensive Guidelines published by OFAC, the financial restrictions, and "What you need to know about the U.S. embargo".

Step 5

Upon re-entry to the United states, present your UT Austin travel authorization letter to the immigration/customs inspector in the U.S. airport.
