Inviting a Cuban Scholar
under the
University of Texas License

To invite a Cuban scholar to the U.S. to teach or conduct research requires special arrangements for travel and funding.

Step 1

Go to the International Student & Scholar Services website for general instructions for inviting scholars to the U.S.

Step 2

For the most part, Cuban scholars invited to campus who will receive any kind of financial support from UT Austin will need to enter the US on the Exchange Visitor (J-1 visa).   Read the cover letter and then complete and return the Exchange Visitor Information Sheet and the Request for Issuance of Form DS-2019 to International Student & Scholar SErvices, International Office, Drawer A, Austin, TX 78713 or campus mail code A7000. Step 3

The DS-2019 is prepared by the International Office staff for use by the incoming Cuban scholar to apply for the J exchange visitor visa to enter the US.

Step 4

The International Office will include with the Form DS-2019 a letter listing the OFAC license number authorizing UT Austin payments.
