Appointing Employees who are on OPT or Academic Training
Appointing
Individuals that have OPT Authorization
A department at The University of Texas at Austin may invite internationals
with a valid F-1 OPT status to work for them. The EAD card and I-20
are used to verify this work authorization.
ISSS needs to monitor the J-1 A/T employees hired by the various
departments. Therefore, as the employee is filling out the I-9 and
other new employee paperwork, ask him/her to stop by ISSS with his/her immigration documents.
The employee should bring the following to the International
Office:
- Passport
- EAD (work
card)
- Current
I-20.
Appointing Individuals that have J-1 Academic
Training Authorization
A department at The University of Texas at Austin may invite internationals
in a valid J-1 Academic Training (J-1 A/T) status to work for them.
The DS-2019 and Sponsors Letter of Authorization are used
to verify this work authorization.
ISSS needs to monitor the J-1 A/T employees hired by the various
departments. Therefore, as the employee is filling out the I-9 and
other new employee paperwork, ask him/her to stop by ISSS with his/her immigration documents.
The employee
should bring the following to the International Office:
- Passport
- Letter of
Work Authorization
- Current
DS-2019
Upon submission of the documents by the employee, the Immigration
Employment Specialist will:
- Copy the
immigration and work authorization documents
- Set up
an international employment file
- Eenter the
new employees information into the International Student
& Scholar Services database.
If the international employee was previously working for the
department in a student classification, the former student must
still present the immigration and work authorization documents to
ISSS. Then, the Faculty and Scholar Advisor will set up the international employment
file and enter the employee in the ISSS database.
