Insurance Waiver

International graduate students, who have a 20-hour benefits-eligible appointment as an AI, TA or GRA, may request their own waiver of student insurance.
Summer GRA must be confirmed by a department email to insuranceadvisor@austin.utexas.edu.The deadline for the summer request is by the 4th class day.

To request a waiver of student insurance, students can access the site at
https://utdirect.utexas.edu/isss/waive_insurance.WBX.

All students requesting a waiver should be directed to this site. International grad students are responsible for requesting an insurance waiver by the 11 class day.   

Please be aware that audits are built into the system whereby if the student's appointment is not on the system by the 11th class day for fall or spring or the 4th class day for summer, they will be billed for student health insurance, even if they have previously requested a waiver online. No waiver or refund is possible after the 12th class day.  No refunds will be granted to students who failed to act before the deadline to request the waiver online.  

Please Note:
If a timely appointment is not possible for the student (due to circumstances beyond the student’s or department’s control – for example, lack of SSN) please contact our Insurance Advisor in order for a manual override to be placed on the student's record.
