Visiting Scholars & Researchers

Various departments of the University invite international visiting professors or researchers to U.T. and request visa documents for the visitor's visa application and entry to the U.S. from the International Office. The majority of temporary visiting researchers and scholars come to lecture or conduct research as J-1 Exchange Visitors on Form DS-2019.

The details of these visits are coordinated by the Office of the Dean of Graduate Studies and more information regarding the requirements and benefits of being appointed a visiting scholar are available on this website.

An orientation for new visiting scholars and faculty is presented every Monday and Wednesday morning at 10:00am and Tuesday and Thursday afternoon at 2:00pm. The orientation normally lasts for one hour and provides information concerning immigration regulations, taxes, medical insurance, community involvement, transportation, banking, and obtaining a driver's license, I.D., and Social Security number.
