New Student Orientation

New Student Orientation Events

If you are admitted to The University of Texas at Austin for the Spring 2010, please mark your calendar to attend the January Orientation Events planned for you by the International Office.  Although these events are optional, we encourage you to attend as they provide opportunities to meet other students and University staff, as well as to gather information to help you adjust to living in Austin and being a student at The University!

Welcome Weekend

Welcome Weekend begins with the International Student Orientation Program on Friday, January 8th. This fun and interactive event begins at 9:30am and ends at 3:30pm. This is your opportunity to meet other international students and make connections with various departments on campus. The highlight of this day is the Welcome Lunch and Information Fair.  Welcome Weekend continues on Saturday, January 9th with tours of campus, tours of Austin, and a shopping trip. All Saturday events will take place at the International Office (IO), located at 600 West 24th Street. See below for details:

When do I need to arrive in Austin?

The answer to this frequently asked question depends upon your choice of orientation options, your housing needs, your immunization requirements, your budget, and many other factors. The program is designed for you to receive an orientation whenever you arrive.

If it is important to you to participate in the entire orientation program, you may choose to arrive on Wednesday, January 6th, or before. Please note: The University is closed from December 22nd – January 1st. A sample schedule:

January 8th International Student Orientation
January 9th Campus & City Tours; Shopping Shuttle
January 11th Immunization Clin, 8.30 - 11.30 am, Student Services Building (SSB)
January 11th – 13th Immigration Briefing & Check-in (IBC)
January 13th New Student Registration

If it is important to you to arrive as late as possible and still register at the earliest possible opportunity (January 13th), you will need to arrive during the day on January 11th. This should allow sufficient time to complete the required IBC, as well as the health & TB testing prior to January 13th.
