About the Position
Do you love writing clear, accurate, helpful online documentation for software and IT services? Is the need to help end users understand and use a technology a primary motivation in what you write?
We are looking for an outgoing, motivated technical communicator to join us in strategic and technical communications. We serve the entire campus community by providing communications about central IT services. We work in a diverse academic community that includes undergraduate and graduate students, world-renown faculty researchers, university support staff, IT service providers, and developers.
People who are successful in this position have:
- Skills in collaborating, sharing, innovating, and contributing to overall team dynamic.
- Been passionate about new technology and be able to write fluently about IT topics.
- Gone beyond the surface level and dug deep to fully capture a business process or user experience.
- Identified and communicated opportunities for improvement with stakeholders.
- Understood all the phases of delivering professional communication for software and IT services, including planning, scheduling, designing, writing, editing, and production.
- Been able to look at the big picture and construct meaningful content that resonates with the target audience.
- Been able to identify documentation needs and information sources and coordinate with contributors.
- Had the ability to develop a rapport with technical experts.
- Been able to follow a style guide for all communications.
- Approached projects with versatility, inventiveness, and creativity.
- Accepted ownership for new and different requests and been interested in exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
About Strategic Communications
Strategic Communications is a small, high-performance group that reports to the Vice President for Information Technology. We support the Vice President, Information Technology Services and the Information Security Office through content development, Web publishing, communications planning and strategic planning, among other responsibilities. We also plan and coordinate events, support internal communications and inform the campus about central technology options. Some of the many functions performed within our group include technical documentation, communications, graphic design, Web design, Web publishing, information architecture, business analysis and strategic planning.
