About the Position
You will serve two essential functions as Manager for ITS Networking’s Edge Network team. Internally, you will lead a small team of talented Network Analysts, manage edge network projects and lead maintenance and expansion of the university’s massive wired and wireless networks. Externally, you will serve at the forefront educating, encouraging and enforcing university-wide network standards with departments throughout the university, and also work closely with the Core Network team.
The university’s network is operated in a federated model, so it will be up to your team to develop viable networking solutions and convince the campus technical community to accept them.
Areas for which this position is responsible
- Managing the Edge Network team, including delegating tasks to team members, establishing guidelines, and conducting follow-ups on all projects.
- Managing and operating one of the largest higher education networks in the country, currently consisting of 108,000 wired ports, 2,700 switches, and 2,200 wireless access points.
- Providing leadership, guidance, and development to the autonomous departmental network community
People previously successful in this position have had
- Experience with enterprise-level networks operating thousands of devices at a single location, preferably at a large higher education institution or a huge corporate headquarters.
- Demonstrated network project management experience.
- Highly technical knowledge of networking.
- An organized, self-directed work ethic with results accomplished with exacting accuracy.
- Excellent customer service skills to sell networking solutions in a federated environment.
About ITS Networking
ITS Networking is part of the operations section of Information Technology Services, one group in the portfolio of the CIO and Vice President for Information Technology. Networking provides both Core and Edge networking to the campus, running services such as Resnet, as well as UTnet, the campus backbone network. ITS Networking recently completed a project to require 802.1X on the campus wireless network, making it one of the largest such deployments in the country.
