About the Position

The ITS Networking group is looking for a smart, self-directed and reliable individual for an entry-level Software Developer position. This position collaborates with other programmers in the Networking group, as well as developers from other organizations and departments across campus.  As a Software Developer, you will create and maintain systems and software that provide central network services and tools for managing one of the largest academic networks in the world.

The chosen candidate for this position will be responsible for:

  • Developing software tools to manage and improve the reliability and capabilities of a large, distributed academic network..
  • Meeting with our customers across campus to determine what software services they need and then working with Networking’s development team to implement those needs..
  • Working with other Networking staff to operate the routers, switches, and wireless access points that make up the university’s network.

The Ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with open source operating system environments.
  • Experience developing software using C/C++, Perl, and MySQL.
  • Experience setting up and operating services on open source platforms.
  • An aptitude and intense interest to learn and apply network technologies.
  • A combination of strong customer service and technical skills.
  • A desire to provide reliable, available, serviceable, and secure services.

About ITS Networking

ITS Networking is part of the operations section of Information Technology Services, one group in the portfolio of the CIO and Vice President for Information Technology. Networking provides both Core and Edge networking to the campus, running services such as Resnet, as well as UTnet, the campus backbone network. ITS Networking recently completed a project to require 802.1X on the campus wireless network, making it one of the largest such deployments in the country.
