About the Position

The ITS Networking team is seeking a self-directed individual for a senior-level Network Engineer position.

In this senior-level position, you will provide technical leadership for ITS Networking’s software development. This includes defining, developing, and maintaining software involved in networking services, and working with other developers to ensure standards are followed and goals are met.

Because the university hosts one of the largest academic networks in the world, experience working with a network of similar scale is imperative for success in this position.

Areas for which this position is responsible

  • Acting as a technical lead in the design, development, and maintenance of software involved in providing networking services and network management tools
  • Managing complex development projects involving multiple parties and providing technical expertise and experience to assist developers working on such projects

Recommended qualifications for success in this position

  • Experience developing software on UNIX systems using Perl, C/C++, TCL/Expect, and UNIX shell scripting
  • Extensive experience with MySQL or similar databases
  • Experience developing, configuring, and managing network services on Linux and FreeBSD systems using open-source and commercial packages
  • Experience integrating software and systems developed both internally and from third parties (open-source and commercial packages) to produce a unified software and operating environment
  • Working knowledge of network systems and protocols and experience designing and managing large-scale wired and wireless networks

About the Networking Team

ITS Networking is part of the operations section of Information Technology Services, one group in the portfolio of the CIO and Vice President for Information Technology. Networking provides both Core and Edge networking to the campus, running services such as Resnet, as well as UTnet, the campus backbone network. ITS Networking recently completed a project to require 802.1X on the campus wireless network, making it one of the largest such deployments in the country.
