About this Position
The Unix team in ITS at the University of Texas at Austin has an open position for a mid-level Oracle Database Administrator. The position will have you performing regular Oracle database maintenance and creation duties including using RMAN for backup and Data Guard for failover.
An Oracle service launch is coming up which will require the team to recruit Oracle customers from throughout the university community, so customer service skills are beneficial. This service launch will also offer the chance to work with RAC systems and utilize Enterprise Manager Grid Control.
Since this is a mid-level position, you can expect mentoring and learning opportunities from senior team members. Room for professional growth is also a possibility.
Some areas for which this position is responsible
- Using RMAN and RMAN scripts for backup and recovery purposes.
- Exposure and Experience with Data Guard for physical standby purposes.
- Maintaining, upgrading, patching, and migrating Oracle databases.
- Troubleshooting Oracle database errors and database resource contention issues.
People previously successful in this position have had
- The ability to perform and manage time well under pressure.
- Customer service skills including both verbal and written communication.
- Experience with Oracle 10g in a Unix and Linux environment.
- Work well with a variety of people, ranging from deeply technical staff, to business people, to nationally known research scientists.
About the Unix Team
The Unix team operates mission-critical services such as Web Central, Blackboard, Webmail and WebSpace. They support other applications on UNIX and Linux platforms. Through timesharing, they provide disk storage and e-mail and support Web publishing for the entire campus. They advise and offer support to the campus community.
