About the Position

The Administrative Systems team of ITS is looking for a UNIX Systems Administrator interested in working in a business-critical area of the university. This position will primarily work with the team’s UNIX developers by taking on internal projects to improve the maintenance and development for our growing number of clustered and virtual servers.

The Administrative Systems team supports the university's mainframe environment and maintains a significant UNIX presence in support of the business applications of the university.

Areas for which this position is responsible

  • Research and development of tools for maintaining high-availability
    UNIX systems.
  • Web server software administration (iPlanet, Apache, Tomcat).
  • Implementing and maintaining centralized logging systems.
  • Backing up existing personnel in the role of secondary support.
  • Keeping up with technological trends and industry standards.

People previously successful in this position have had

  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in UNIX systems administration.
  • In-depth knowledge of and broad experience developing systems within an enterprise-level, high-volume-transaction computing environment.
  • A thorough understanding of systems configuration management principles and best practices.
  • A strong desire to work in a team environment.

About the Administrative Systems Team

The Administrative Systems team manages the mainframe hardware, software and related technologies, including Natural/Adabas software on which enterprise functions depend. They support services such as the Task Manager scheduler (requires UT EID login), Green Output for Mainframe reports, and other functions.
