The University of Texas at Austin
As part of the Web Central Services Retirement project, the ITS website will be retired. Information about IT services will be replaced by two new sites, IT@UT and UT ServiceNow, and ITS departmental information will be migrated to a new location. All changes will be completed by 7/19/2016.

Austin Active Directory

User Accounts

The EID user name and password information for all active students, faculty and staff at The University of Texas at Austin are loaded into the domain. The EID information is synchronized with the EID database in real time, and all EID management is handled through the UT EID Self-Service Tools. No other types of user accounts may be created in the Austin domain. See Administrative and Service Credentials for information about sponsored and departmental accounts, and Computer Accounts for information about machine-based accounts.

ITS deletes unused EID user names from Austin Active Directory in January, May, and August. The EIDs selected for deletion meet the following criteria:

  • Are disabled from logging in to Austin Active Directory
  • Have no Austin services or university affiliations (are stored in the Rabble Organizational Unit)
  • Have not been modified/logged in or had the password changed in a minimum of the previous 60 days

The EIDs are staged into a container and deleted after 30 days. Although we do not expect any active UT EIDs to be accidentally deleted, a deleted UT EID will be automatically recreated in Austin Active Directory if it is enabled or some other change (password, affiliation, etc.) is performed in the EID system.
