Microsoft has identified the issue and is in extended recovery. The problem was related to MX record configurations. However, since our MX records point to our on-premise anti-apam/AV appliances, this issue did not impact us, so this alert can be closed.
[Please note that we have been getting reports of delayed “Queue Expired” NDRs for messages sent last Wednesday. This is due to a temporary transport configuration issue that arose on Wednesday, noted at http://www.utexas.edu/its/alerts/interruptions/4652/ , and not the particular issue described by this alert.]
At 10:04am, the Office 365 service status reported that Microsoft engineers are currently investigating reports of an issue where some users served from the Americas may be receiving Non-Delivery Reports (bounces) when sending emails.
It is not clear that UT campus is affected, but we will monitor the situation and post status as appropriate. If UT users are experiencing issues with email delivery, please inform ITS helpdesk (firstname.lastname@example.org) so we can track the issue better.
