RESOLVED: Reboot for PHAROS UTPrint server
Service Restored

The PHAROS UTPrint server is back online with functioning services.  The server is accepting print jobs from clients, though it remains to be seen if this reboot resolved the issue for SOA.  For the purposes of campus notification, this maintenance is complete.


12:22 AM
The PHAROS UTPrint server will be rebooted shortly after 12:00AM Friday morning to complete periodic patching and resolve an EDI service problem related to School of Architecture printing.

Any persons attempting to print using UTPrint during this reboot/maintenance window will be denied at the output terminals and by the print client software.

The demands on the UTPrint service require rebooting and maintenance during off-peak hours.

I will followup to this list once the maintenance is complete and printing services are verified as properly restored (which may take several hours).

At the direction of Pharos, it will be necessary to apply a service pack for Uniprint 8.3 Revision 396 which will enable consistent printing from Windows 8.1 (a problem which becomes more apparent every day).  The application of this service pack relates to client packages created and distributed by the server and will not directly affect the Pharos Uniprint print service on the server.

Good news!  The bug with redirection has been fixed in Production.  We are considering this issue entirely closed, and there will be no further updates to this list.

ITS has placed a new version of PDF Generator into UT Direct in production as of about 11:15 AM today, and all Administrative Systems testing areas have reported success with it.

We believe this version fixes all reported problems.

There remains one known but rare bug: if you request a secured document but are not logged in, you will be prompted to login but not returned to the document.

You can still get the document by asking for it again after logging in, and many report that the browser’s “back” button works for this purpose.

ITS continues to work to correct this known bug.  Please contact the UTLogin team at utlogin@utlists.utexas.edu if you have any issues, questions or concerns.

The next update will be Monday 9/22 at 2:00 PM or earlier as warranted.

ITS has placed a new version of UT Direct PDF Generator into the production UT Direct environment.

We believe this version fixes all reported problems. 

One known bug exists: If a secured document is requested and are you are not logged in, you will be prompted to login.  Instead of redirecting you back to your original request (and handing you the document), the you will be redirected to the UT Direct homepage.  ITS will continue to develop a fix for this condition.

An update will follow at 2:00 PM, or earlier as warranted.

Until then, ITS continues testing in the Qual UT Direct environment with assistance from groups that have reported problems from the University.

ITS will continue testing in development and qual UT Direct environments, with assistance from groups that have reported problems from the University.

ITS Systems Middleware continues to investigate and has obtained assistance from developers in ITS Applications in the effort.

No workaround has been identified yet, though the team has identified promising leads.  We will update the list again on Wednesday at 12 noon.

Analysis of code and transactional process traces have resulted in identification of sections in the PDF Generator that may be responsible for the undesired behavior.  ITS continues to investigate and debug this issue.

This service is most commonly used to create electronic copies of W-2s and systematically generated letters.

ITS is attempting to reliably reproduce the problem and troubleshoot the issue.
