RESOLVED: Loss of UTDirect / Apply Texas redundancy
Service Restored

This issue has been resolved.  UTDirect and Apply Texas have been restored to their normal operating state.  The services are once again running on a fully redundant load balancing environment.

The previous load balancer continued to process traffic normally until it was replaced during the maintenance window.  Throughout this event, there was no impact to production services beyond what would have normally occurred during the regularly scheduled Mainframe maintenance window.

UTDirect and Apply Texas are still in a degraded state.  ITS Systems has almost finished duplicating the load balancing environment.  Only one non-production service (dpdev1.dp.utexas.edu) remains to be configured.  We successfully transitioned a non-production service (beta.dp.utexas.edu) to the new load balancing environment and it is working correctly.

All remaining services will be migrated to the new load balancing environment during the scheduled Mainframe maintenance window on Sunday (2/7) from midnight to 1:00 am.  UTDirect and Apply Texas would normally be unavailable during this time so there will be no additional impact as a result of the migration.

The active load balancer continues to process traffic normally.  There has been no impact to production services.  The next update will be on Monday (2/8).

UTDirect and Apply Texas are still in a degraded state.  ITS Systems has completed configuration of production services on a new load balancing environment.  Work continues for configuring non-production services.

UTDirect and Apply Texas are still in a degraded state.  Replacement equipment is in place.  ITS Systems is working to configure it.  The active load balancer continues to function normally.  There has been no impact to production services.  The next update will be on Thursday (2/4).

UTDirect and Apply Texas are still in a degraded state.  ITS Systems are working to build a replacement load balancer pair.  The active load balancer continues to function normally.  There has been no impact to production services.  The next update will be on Wednesday (2/3).

UTDirect and Apply Texas are in a degraded state due to the failure of a standby load balancer.  The active load balancer for these services is still functioning and processing traffic normally.  There has been no impact to production services.

ITS Systems staff are making preparations to replace the failed unit.  The next update will be on Monday (2/1).

Qual and beta UTdirect loadbalancer switch

Beta.dp.utexas.edu has been moved to the new loadbalancer pair, there were issues moving qual, so it will be migrated on Sunday along with the other utdirect environments.

We will be moving the beta.dp.utexas.edu and qual.its.utexas.edu servers to a new loadbalancer pair to restore high availability. We will be conducting this emergency switch at 2:30pm today. You may experience a brief interruption, less than 1 or 2 minutes. If you experience any issues, please email ait-sysadmins@utlists.utexas.edu.

We plan on moving dpdev1 and prod UTdirect during the monthly mainframe restart this Sunday at midnight so as to not affect any production services.
