VoIP Phone Outage

The issue continues on an intermittent basis.  We continue to work with the vendor.  We may need a brief emergency outage later this evening. We’ll announce it with as much notice as possible.

We are having reports and seeing the same symptoms we saw earlier this morning.  Attempts to call out do not complete and incoming calls may get an unavailable message or perhaps voicemail.  Voice staff is investigating and the vendor has been contacted.

Upon further investigation, analog phones on the new system are up.  The problem is affecting only the VoIP telephones.

Office 365 Connectivity Issue

Microsoft engineers have determined a preliminary root cause – “a high-level portion of the network infrastructure became degraded, which is causing an interruption to Exchange Online connectivity” – and have redirected network traffic to alternate capacity in an attempt to restore service.  ITS Systems staff are continuing to coordinate support and monitor progress.  The next update will be posted no later than 11:00 PM.

ITS Systems staff have received reports of users unable to access Exchange Online mailboxes via MAPI,EAS,EWS, or the Outlook Web App.  Staff are engaging with Microsoft to investigate the issue further and formulate a resolution.

Both ITS Systems staff and Microsoft engineers have confirmed that the service is now healthy and operating as expected.

Microsoft engineers continue to work towards a permanent solution.  Network traffic has been directed to an alternate network in the meantime.
Issues are no longer being reported by campus, but ITS Systems staff continue to monitor for further development.

Microsoft engineers continue to connect the service to an alternate network capacity in an effort to restore service completely. In parallel, network engineers are repairing the connectivity issue to address the underlying cause.

Reports of issues by users in our tenant appear to have abated – ITS Systems staff will continue to monitor the situation.  The next update will be posted at 5:00 PM.

Microsoft reports that connecting the service to an alternate mailbox capacity resulted in a partial restoration of service. Engineers are connecting the service to an alternate network capacity in an effort to restore service completely.  The next update will be posted at 2:30 PM.

Preliminary Root Cause: A dependent third-party network experienced an interruption to connectivity, which caused impact to the Exchange Online mailbox infrastructure

Microsoft support personnel are investigating service alerts and system logs related to Exchange Online mailbox access.  Affected users may be unable to connect to the Exchange Online service when using multiple protocols including Outlook, Outlook Web App (OWA), Exchange ActiveSync (EAS), and Exchange Web Services (EWS).

Impact to the University appears to be restricted to sluggish performance at this time – ITS Systems staff are continuing to monitor the situation.  The next update will be posted at 1:30 PM.

23:02- 6/30/15 Maintenance window is extended to 12:00 AM to finalize maintenance. Service is expected to experience some stability issues as testing is performed.
