Cabling and Wiring
ITS runs Ethernet and fiber-optic data cables for data, voice, or video for offices, labs, and other facilities at the main UT campus and at the PRC. The physical-layer infrastructure for the university's networking services, departmental networks, underground copper cable plant, and microwave radio links to other university sites in Austin are also part of this service.
Rearranging your office space? It might be necessary to move your cabling.
- Available for all buildings on the main campus as well as PRC
- Cable types include Ethernet (CAT 5E) and fiber optic
- New Ethernet and fiber systems are wired to current TIA/EIA standards
- Maintenance and repair of installed cabling and hardware is included for the life of the cable
The current voice/data cabling backlog is six (6) weeks; this includes a two (2) week EHS delay. The primary cause of the backlog is the remediation efforts supporting the Voice over IP (VoIP) Project. This delay will most likely continue throughout the duration of the VoIP Project (September 2015). We apologize for the delays. For questions regarding voice/data workorder scheduling, please contact the Inside Plant Cabling Shop at 512-475-7092. For questions regarding fiber installation, please contact the Outside Plant Shop at 512-471-3426.
The cost for cabling and wiring services depends on both the building and the services required. Refer to the cost estimator for more information.
