Daylight Saving Time

Background

The Energy Policy Act, passed by the U.S. Congress in 2005, changes the start and end dates of Daylight Saving Time (DST). In 2007, DST will start three weeks earlier (on March 11, 2007) and end one week later (on November 4, 2007). The time between the new DST dates and the original DST dates (March 11-April 1 and October 28-November 4) is referred to as “Extended DST.”

Different applications are affected by the DST change in different ways, but the most common problem occurs in calendaring applications. Events scheduled between March 11 and April 1 may appear one hour later than originally scheduled; anything scheduled between October 28 and November 4 appear one hour earlier than originally scheduled. Some system clocks may also be off by one hour during the extended DST dates.

To address these changes to DST, many vendors have released patches or upgrades. Please refer to the appropriate areas of this site to see what actions you may need to take to ensure you are minimally affected by DST.
