Joining a Windows Computer to the Active Directory
The following procedures explain how to join a Windows XP, Vista, Server 2003, or Server 2008 computer to the Austin Active Directory.
Note: You must complete preparation steps before joining your computer to Austin Active Directory.
Click the Start button, and select Control Panel.
Double-click System.
Click the Computer Name tab.
In the Computer description field, enter a new computer name that complies with the Austin domain naming convention.
Click Change.
Ensure Domain is selected and enter "austin.utexas.edu" in the Domain field.
Click OK.
Enter the user name and password of your organizational unit's administrative account, and then click OK.
Click OK twice and then click Yes.
Restart the machine.
Registering in Austin DNS Servers
Instructions are also available for configuring your computer to register in Austin DNS servers. This step is only required for machines that must register to see the Austin DNS Servers.
