Transition From Symantec: Errors
I already have Windows Live OneCare installed, and now Forefront won't install
Operating System: Windows
Problem
If you have Windows Live OneCare installed, the Forefront Client Security program will fail to install.
Solution
Both Forefront Client Security and Live OneCare are anti-virus products. As stated in the installation instructions, all other anti-virus products must be uninstalled prior to installing Forefront Client Security. If you have Live OneCare installed and are receiving updates to virus definitions, you do not have to install Forefront. Forefront is provided by the university as an option for students, faculty and staff using the campus network.
Please see the Microsoft knowlegebase article about this issue for more information about the installation error messages and the alternatives.
Symantec won't completely uninstall
Problem
Symantec software isn't completely uninstalled after you go through the process described on this Web site. You may still see directories and files listed.
Solution
Symantec does not like to uninstall cleanly in every case. Also, the uninstall utility provided by ITS is designed specifically to uninstall the Symantec products that were provided on BevoWare. To resolve this problem, visit the Symantec Web site and go through their manual uninstall steps. You can also call the ITS Help Desk for assistance.
Microsoft Outlook
Operating System: Windows
Problem
After uninstalling Symantec from a computer, the next time you open Microsoft Outlook, you may see the following message:
"The Add-in "Symantec Antivirus 10.1" (C:Program FilesSymantec Antivirusvpmsece4.dll) cannot be loaded and has been disabled by Outlook. Please contact the Add-in manufacturer for an update. If no update is available, please uninstall the Add-in."
If you close the error message, Outlook opens normally. However, the message displays every time you open Outlook.
Solution
Click OK to close the error message.
From the Tools menu, select Trust Center.
Click Add-Ins.
From the Manage drop-down list, select Exchange Client Extensions and click Go.
Clear the Symantec option (the specific title depends on which product you had installed) and click OK.
Exit Outlook and open it again. The message should no longer display.
See background information on this error at the Symantec Web site.
Forefront Client Security doesn't find software or anti-virus and anti-spyware definition updates (Vista)
Operating System: Windows Vista
Problem
The Status area of the Forefront Client Security program should show virus and malware versions with dates close to today's date once all the updates are correctly installed. However, if you are not correctly set up to receive updates, Windows may tell you there aren't any updates available, and your Status area will look like this:
Solution
Make sure that you set up for Microsoft Update. This ensures that Windows Update will look for updates for Forefront.
Forefront Client Security doesn't install updates
Operating System: Windows Vista
Problem
The first time you run Forefront, your software updates may not install, even if your anti-virus and anti-spyware definition files are updated. When you open Forefront Client Security, you will see that updates are available, while the Status area shows up-to-date definitions.

Solution
Make sure that you set up for Microsoft Update. This ensures that Windows Update will look for updates for Forefront. Next:
Do not click the Download button!
Open the Control Panel by selecting Start and then Control Panel.
Select the Security group; then click Windows Update.
Click Check for Updates. Windows Update locates all the updates for your computer.

We recommend you review the updates rather than just installing them, but you can choose to install everything. Click View available updates.
Note: Internet Explorer 8 is one of the currently available optional updates. If you select Install Updates, your Web browser could be upgraded.
Select the Forefront Client Security Update and any other updates you choose to install and click Install.

Restart your computer.
When all updates to the program and the virus definition files have been installed, the Forefront system tray icon changes to reflect that it is up-to-date.

Resolved: Forefront Client Security doesn't install on a 64-bit system
Operating System: Windows 64-bit (all OS versions)
Problem
When you install Forefront Client Security on a 64-bit system, the software program does not install and displays no error message.
Solution
Resolved. The installer on BevoWare is universal. It detects the OS and installs the appropriate version.
