Uninstalling Symantec Anti-Virus (Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5)

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5

If you are a faculty or staff member whose computer is supported by technical support staff, please contact your support staff prior to performing this procedure.

Uninstalling Symantec AntiVirus

  1. Back up your system and/or any important content stored on your system prior to performing this procedure. See the Data Backup topic for more information about backing up your important data.

    Note: The uninstallation process can cause a loss of data. Please be sure to back up your files appropriately.

  2. Follow the procedure listed on the Symantec Web site for removing all Symantec programs for Macintosh, beginning with Step 1. You must be logged in as an administrator and know your administrative password to complete the uninstallation process.

Updating the Firewall

If you uninstalled the Symantec Firewall, you should enable the Mac OS X firewall.
