Using Outlook Web App (OWA)

There are two versions of Outlook Web App (OWA): Outlook Web App and Outlook Web App Light. The full version of OWA is available only in Internet Explorer 7.

Reading signed messages using Outlook Web App (OWA)

In OWA you can always read email messages that have been digitally signed, provided that the sender has configured their email client correctly to send plain-text messages when they use their digital signatures. Most email clients do this by default, but Outlook and Entourage users must select the correct options when they set up their programs to sign.

If you receive a message that says you've received an email but it can't display the message body, you should contact the sender.

Certificates must be installed in the Windows Certificate Store to complete this procedure.

If the computer is managed by someone else, you may not have the administrative privileges necessary to run this tool. Please consult your technical support staff to have them install the control.

On the computer where you plan to use OWA, install your digital certificates in the Windows Certificate Store.
Log into the Microsoft Outlook Web App Web page for UT Austin.
Select Options from the button bar in the left pane.
Scroll to the E-mail Security section and click Download.
Click Run. If you previously installed the control, you may need to click Re-install.
Follow the prompts to complete the procedure.

Once the control is installed, two additional icons display when you create a new message in OWA. Clicking the envelope icon with the seal adds your digital signature. Clicking the envelope icon with the lock encrypts the message.
