UTmail for Apple Mac Mail Configuration Instructions

Apple Mac Mail 5.0 (Mac OS 10.6 or later)

  1. Make sure Apple Mail is closed.

  2. Go to the Mail, Contacts & Calendars panel in System Preferences.

  3. Select Gmail and put in these settings:

    • Full Name: (your name)
    • Username: (your UTmail address @utexas.edu)
    • Password: (UTmail password)
  4. When you open Apple Mail, it will ask for the password again, but then everything will work properly.

Apple Mac Mail (OS 10.5 or earlier)

  1. Select Mail > Preferences.

  2. Select '+' to add an account.

  3. Fill in email address and password fields.

  4. Select Continue.

  5. Description: "UT Mail"

  6. Change the drop down menu to IMAP.

  7. Incoming Mail Server: "imap.gmail.com"

  8. Username: "username@utexas.edu" (replace username with your complete UTmail username)

  9. Enter your UTmail password.

  10. Select Continue.

  11. Outgoing mail server: "smtp.gmail.com"

  12. Check Use Authentication.

  13. Select Continue.

  14. Select Create.

Make sure that your outgoing settings reflect this Outgoing Server:

  • Check the box for Login required.
  • Username: your complete UTmail email address ("sample@utexas.edu")
  • Password: your UTmail password
  • SMTP Server: "smtp.gmail.com"
  • Security type: SSL
  • Server port: "465" or "587"
