Enterprise Whole Disk Encryption
Using Alternate Encryption Methods
Personal laptops approved for UT business use or UT owned laptops may also be encrypted through alternate methods by following these instructions.
Before Installing Encryption Software
Note: Check for any existing encryption technologies on your laptop. If encryption is already in place do not proceed.
- Ensure the account being used on the laptop has administrative access to the system OR that an alternate account with this privilege is present and accessible on the system.
- Back up all critical data on external storage media — this can be a USB flash drive, a hard drive, a recordable DVD or CD.
- Check your computer for operating system updates and fully patch the system.
- Select an approved method for encryption and print out applicable instructions for reference in case Web access is lost.
