Enterprise Whole Disk Encryption

Uninstall SecureDoc - Windows 7

Note: Only individuals with SecureDoc client administrative rights can successfully remove encryption and the client. ITS strongly recommends that department TSCs or administrative delegates supervise all decryption and client removal procedures. Decryption will take several hours or more and must be allowed to complete uninterrupted or catastrophic data loss may occur. Also, do not attempt to remove SecureDoc without fully decrypting any encrypted drives or catastrophic data loss may occur.


  1. SES Console access.
  2. Local Administrative access to the device where SecureDoc is to be uninstalled.
  3. Active network connection.

Step 1: Enable Decryption

Ensure the SecureDoc account logging in to the host computer has administrative rights for the SecureDoc client. If not, assign them.

  1. Open the SES Console, locate the Device Name.
  2. Right-click on the logged in user listed as having access to the device.
  3. Select Access Rights. The resulting pop-up will display all privileges for the selected user.
  4. Assign admin privilege by selecting the Admin Rights radio button. Alternately you may select Convert Hard Disk which is the only privilege necessary to perform decryption.

  5. Click OK.

    The SES server will communicate access rights changes to the device automatically. However, we recommend using the following steps to initiate client communication with the server to ensure the update is received.

  6. Right click on the SecureDoc tray icon and select Communicate with server.

  7. Within several minutes the access rights change will be complete. However, the computer must be rebooted for the access rights changes to take effect.

Step 2: Decrypt

  1. Log in to the computer with the account having its access rights modified in Step 1 above.
  2. Locate the SecureDoc executable (SecurDoc.exe) in C:\ProgramFiles\WinMagic\SecurreDoc-NT\
  3. Run SecurDoc.exe with elevated privileges (Press Shift and right-click, and select Run as administrator), even if the account you are logged in with is a local administrator. This will bring up the SecureDoc Control Center with elevated privileges, which are necessary to start decryption.
  4. Enter the account password that SecureDoc is using to access the computer.


  5. Click Login. Once you have successfully logged in, several tabs should appear at the top of the Control Center.

  6. Click on the Disk Encryption tab.
  7. Choose local hard drive 1. Normally the drive letter will be listed as "HD1e" + host name.
  8. Select operation Decrypt. Conversion mode will default to Thorough. Do not change this option.
  9. Select Start, then confirm the decryption command.

  10. Wait for disk decryption to complete. This process may take quite some time and should not be interrupted.

  11. When decryption completes the client will present a notification and prompt for a restart.

    • After the restart, the client's hard drive data is no longer protected by SecureDoc. The client will nag about encrypting the drive after each OS boot. Continue to acknowledge the complaint or remove SecureDoc as described below.
    • If you attempt to uninstall SecureDoc before removing Boot Logon, a warning message will be presented. Do not continue SecureDoc removal without uninstalling Boot Logon or data may be lost.

To remove Boot Logon:

  1. Open the control center as described above.
  2. Select the Boot Control tab.
  3. Click Install/Uninstall Boot Logon.
  4. Select Uninstall Boot Logon, then follow any subsequent prompts.
  5. After the Boot Logon uninstall has completed, SecureDoc may be removed via the Control Panel Programs and Features.
